Austin FC Outlook

Austin FC fell 2-1 to Toronto FC last Saturday night away at BMO Field. Though Austin created the better of the scoring opportunities, TFC were more clinical and collected all three points. The silver lining in the match was a wonderful goal by Owen Wolff, in which the young midfielder showed excellent control and composure.

Austin now turns its attention to LAFC for a midweek match away at BMO Stadium, the first of two matches in quick succession this week. The two previously met back in August during Leagues Cup’s Round of 32, where Austin fell 2-0. In regular season play, the two faced off back on June 19th at Q2 Stadium ending in a 1-1 draw. Jáder Obrian was Austin’s goalscorer on that day.

The Verde & Black will be without three players due to yellow card suspension as the aim to collect an important win in the push for the postseason.

LAFC Outlook

LAFC is coming off a 4-2 defeat to LA Galaxy last Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park. Early in the first half, LAFC opened the scoring through Mateusz Bogusz. Shortly after, Bogusz doubled their lead, marking his 17th goal of the season. The tables turned in the 53rd minute, when the Galaxy scored back-to-back goals two minutes apart to equalize. LAFC was then reduced to 10 men in the 79th minute, when Lewis O’Brien was shown a straight red card for a foul on the Galaxy’s Miki Yamane. The Galaxy would go on to score twice more to win the rivalry match.

LAFC is currently sitting in 2nd place in the Western Conference, with a 14-7-6 overall record. Despite the loss, with Saturday’s result LAFC snapped a four-game streak in all competitions of scoring one or zero goals.

It’ll be crucial for the Verde & Black to capitalize on any scoring chances that come their way if they’re to emerge with three points on Wednesday night. LAFC have the second-best home record in the West, with 30 points from 14 matches at BMO Stadium. An Austin victory would build momentum ahead of a Texas derby against Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday night.
