Austin FC Outlook
Austin FC drew 1-1 with LAFC Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium, bringing the team’s home record to 6-3-2 this season. Austin took an early lead in the 19th minute with Jáder Obrian finding the back of the net for the fifth time this season, assisted by captain Sebastián Driussi.
With the quick turnaround the Verde & Back shift their attention to Minnesota United FC this weekend, for the first of back-to-back away games to close the month of June. The two faced each other for Austin’s 2024 home opener at Q2 Stadium back in February, where Austin fell 2-1. Guilherme Biro scored in stoppage time to mark his debut with a goal in that match.
The Verde & Black will look to even the score for the last match up of the 2024 regular season against Minnesota. Last year, Austin earned its biggest road win over the season against the Loons, triumphing 4-1 at Allianz Field.
Minnesota United FC Outlook
Minnesota United FC is currently sitting in 4th place in the Western Conference, with a record of 8-5-5. Minnesota united is coming off a 5-3 defeat against FC Dallas Wednesday night. That result was the Loons’ second straight loss, following their 2-0 defeat against Seattle Sounders FC last Saturday.
The Loons had three different goal scorers against FC Dallas, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Hassani Dotson, and Wil Trapp. Minnesota has been an offense by committee all season as six players have scored three or more goals. Tani Oluwaseyi leads the way with seven, while Robin Lod has contributed five goals and 10 assists.
Minnesota United FC currently has a 4-1-4 home record, with their only home loss coming against Houston Dynamo back in April. It’ll be up to Austin to hand Minnesota their second home loss of the season to gain the momentum for the second half of the season.
