Austin FC Outlook

Despite falling to LAFC in the Leagues Cup Round of 32 in early August, Austin was able to use the tournament to build momentum with a pair of quality wins over two of the best teams in Liga MX. With two weeks since their tournament exit, the Verde & Black now shift their attention back to MLS play to face Nashville SC at GEODIS Park, the first of a nine-game homestretch to the regular season.

The two teams last met back on September 17, 2022 at Q2 Stadium, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Sebastián Driussi scored the equalizer in the 61st minute, following Hany Mukhtar converting a penalty in the 56th minute. Austin has a record of 10-6-2 against Eastern Conference teams since the start of 2022.

Austin FC is currently sitting in 10th place in the Western Conference standings, just outside the playoff line. A win against Nashville would kick off the push for the postseason in a positive way before ATXFC returns home next weekend against Vancouver.

Nashville SC Outlook

Nashville SC had a short run in their Leagues Cup journey, failing to make it out of the group stage after falling to Mazatlán in regulation and New England Revolution in PKs. Prior to the Leagues Cup break, Nashville was on a slump, losing their last six matches in regular season MLS play.

Nashville will be coming off an 18-day break, as new Head Coach B.J. Callaghan and team shift their attention to the Verde & Black. Nashville is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, with a 6-11-8 overall record and a home record of 4-4-5. Austin has yet to find a point in their previous two meetings away in Nashville back in 2021 and 2022.

Austin fans will remember that Hany Mukhtar scored in both games between these teams in 2022. Keeping the German attacker quiet will be key to victory for the visitors on Saturday night.
