Austin FC fell 5-1 against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at America First Field.
Brad Stuver made a solid save in the 10th minute to deny Diego Luna, but RSL’s Western Conference-leading attack was not to be denied. Cristian Arango and Anderson Julio scored twice each before halftime to make it 4-0 at the break.
Diego Rubio had a chance at the start of the second half, sending his volley over the bar. Jáder Obrian then scored off a counterattack for Austin only to see the goal ruled out and a penalty awarded to RSL for a handball at the other end of the field, which Arango converted.
Austin scored from the spot themselves in the final moments, as Alex Ring put away a penalty won by Owen Wolff.
